I can't find it but my browser has been acting crazy.

Just wanted to say that british bacon, usually known as rashers, are the best pork product created by man since the dawn of time. This is true bacon. I wish I could get this in the supermarket instead of having to drive to The British Supply Store and paying $10 for a couple ounces of heaven.

Here is the post I was making regarding curry. Very important so I'm putting it up anyway.

My mother was a colonial from Kenya. I'll give you the standard recipe for curry - remember, a lot of English 'curry' is actually Pakistani. PROPER Indian curry, I agree, is god's own work.

Most essential ingredients in a curry are a good curry powder. You need to source this direct from a spice guy in your local Indian neighbourhood - they will know what to mix up for you and as you go along, you will eventually know what to mix up.

METHOD - this is the most important step. Everyone fucks up and puts the curry powder in like it's a gravy powder - THIS IS WRONG. I cannot emphasise how important it is not to do that. Anyway, as follows:

a) Chop onions and garlic and fry in a little oil.
b) Add meat in large cubes (mutton is best, or fatty cuts of beef although technically it's haram to add beef into a proper Indian curry)
c) Fry meat until browned and then add curry powder
d) FRY THE CURRY POWDER WITH THE MEAT [most important step] - you need to sear the meat with the curry powder
e) Add a good amount of lime juice and then lower heat to simmer
f) Then add coconut water as your base liquid and simmer for even longer - a good curry like a good stew should be cooked for a long time to break down the meat muscle (which is why it's imporant to always use very large cuts of meat) and add in all the flavours
g) Add in potato and other vegetables as required


That's basically it. That's the basic curry method and it's foolproof. Ideally, a good curry should be cooked the day before and left to cool overnight then eaten the next day. It also freezes very well. If you're a manly man like my grandad, you yourself make it (like mine did) and then put it in tiffin tins to take on hunting trips with you and your buddies.

I respectively disagree. Rashers a good, but there are many bacon products that are superior. I prefer thick cut, uncured, organic bacon, sometimes with maple or pepper depending on the day.

NP guy. It's basically the method for stew but yeah, my family's been making that for decades and it's bona fide curry. Oh and you can add chopped tomato just before step (e) but that's option. Sorry, forgot to mention that.

yeah people get down on them about their food but... I bought a can of british beans the other day after walking down the imported food aisle (Heinz, but imported from the UK) to try beans on toast and I'll tell you what, that is one easy and quick to prepare (you got a toaster and a microwave?) dish that tastes way better than it sounds. Hearty without being too filling, great texture in the mouth, great flavor as the beans and the really light tomato sauce on the beans mixes well with the toast (I'm glad I got the right beans and didn't just buy a can of American "BBQ" style baked beans), it's the type of snack maybe you crave a little before bed time. Good job limeys, I'm sold.
(I also bought a bottle of HP sauce but I haven't yet figured out what to put it on)

Nice i might try this. I usually cook Indian curries with fried paneer cubes instead of meat. You think it would work with this?

Probably. As long as it's conducive to slow cooking you can use anything. This is the basic curry method. The MOST important step is to fry the curry powder not add it like gravy powder. That's the most important thing because that really gets into the meat (or whatever you're using) and then locks in all the flavour. But yeah, it should work no probs. Just remember to keep a very low simmering temperature.

oh yeah and also when I was in Afghanistan I spent a couple of days eating brit food at a chow hall there, I couldn't get enough of it, I would go back for thirds usually. Bangers and mash, that pudding stuff, everything they had. I could tell their food isn't too good for you and I'd weigh 300lbs if I lived there but DAMN THAT CRAP IS TASTY.

No, it's the more watery part of the coconut. My mother would use coconut milk for faster cooking meats like chicken (still using the same method), but because it's so slow cooking and you need a lot, you're better off with coconut water if you can get it. Otherwise use coconut milk and just dilute it. You don't want a very intense coconut taste.

But you could use coconut milk in curry.
