I never noticed this before coming onto this site - I must stress that I remain to be a liberal, and that I'm not a WN by any means - but I'm starting to think blacks are a little overrepresented in Hollywood.A lot of the times we hear that blacks, or specifically, African-Americans, are underrepresented in the American film industry. I used to think the same, but sitting down and really thinking about it, I'm starting to think it is the opposite - that they are overrepresented. African-Americans don't comprise a huge chunk of the American population, yet when I ponder the issue, it's difficult to think of a present day American film or TV show where an AA actor/actress doesn't have a significant role. I'm not talking about being the protagonist as whites do dominate those roles - I'm talking about being a supporting character, an antagonist or even a smaller, bit part role which doesn't have much airtime, but still remains to be significant in the scheme of the script. I hate to say it but sometimes it actually feels like it is contractually obligatory for producers to hire a black actor/actress for whatever project.And then we always hear about racism regarding blacks and lead roles. But then again, how many non-white lead actors/actresses can one name? I can't think of another non-white lead actor whose name screams "box office" as much as Will Smith. Denzel Washington isn't far behind, either. Samuel L. Jackson is, statistically-speaking, the highest grossing actor of all time. The likes of Idris Elba and Chiwetel Eijofor are also on the rise in Hollywood.

Looking at American media (as in TV shows/movies), which most of ours is here, one would think that they're (blacks) like 1/3 of their country, and that only white people are bad and any group that will defeat them are comprised of two white people (usually an older male and a younger quite attractive female), a young black guy usually paired with the white chick, a strong underestimated light skinned black girl, a mid 30s hispanic guy that is the strong silent type, and then usually one or two others, one of whom may either be a super Americanized Arab Muslim, or some kind of completely racially ambiguous person. The Blacklist is a good example of this: every bad person(s) is a white male(s) with very few exceptions; on the rare occasion that it's a non-white they ALWAYS have some reason for you to empathize with their actions. The cast of the main FBI agents are: a youngish attractive white woman, an older white guy who is a semi-lovable fugitive with his strong silent type African Muslim sidekick, a Johnny Law type youngish white guy who kind of lacks a personality, an older wise black guy who leads their crew and is a respectable father figure of sorts to the white girl, a nerdy Arab computer geek who occasionally fucks white women, and an Arab woman who actually works/worked for MOSSAD; she's sort of the strong woman archetype with a bit of a racial grudge (also she ends up dating and marrying the Arab dude).
