Looking past race is similar to The Prisoner's Dilemma, in that it requires trust that both parties (or, different races) will agree to set aside their racial preference and see colorblind so that society as a whole can advance without the internal fighting and tribalism.
Yet, as in The Prisoner's Dilemma, there is an advantage if the races agree to be colorblind yet betray the other races and covertly look after their own self-interest. This reward is presently better than what all races get from a colorblind society.
So we see society as a whole working with this basic Dilemma, choosing either the long-term strategy of color-blindedness which promises a better overall reward, or the short-term gains of betrayal.
If all races intermix, there will still be inter-ethnic turbulence. Not to mention, mixing races creates a sense of alienation among the mixed because they don't belong to either race of their parents fully.
