It's been a while. Let's have an architecture thread.

Honestly the thing I hate most about north america is, since civilization is new here, relative to europe, the architecture is fucking horrible especially in fucking vancouver

Pretty cool, I could pretend I was living on a Star Trek planet here

This thread has made me violently angry

The Canadian Parliament Building is pretty comfy, though.

So what? the Chernobyl sarcophagus looks cool.

Yeah, it is, modern architecture is great, regressives can go jump.

Attached: Shizuoka Press and Broadcasting Center.jpg (800x1169, 190K)

Why?

Attached: tumblr_ni2t0rswRu1rfb4z6o1_1280.jpg (1000x664, 266K)

I agree. But the Chernobyl sarcophagus looks cool because it's an oversized Pandora's box in the middle of an abandoned wasteland and it gives off a post-apocalyptic feeling.
But this doesn't mean I want to see a Chernobyl-like sarcophagus in the middle of my city.

My God, these pictures. How can any architect propose to replace timeless beauty with postmodernity in good consciousness? This is what cultural erasure looks like on a continental scale.

This doesn't mean we should build depression nests.
Some postmodern buildings were actually pretty good. Like the pic you've just posted, that one is from Paris, Les Espaces d'Abraxas. What I really hate are the modernist/glass modernist abominations.

Traditional architecture is just not very practical in modern society, there's no nefarious conspiracy to destroy beauty.

There was, in the 70s, 80s. Venice charter.
>Traditional architecture is just not very practical in modern society
Neoclassical, stripped classicism, brick architecture and Art Deco would be cheap and nice.

Is that the statue behind the Stadtschloss?

Attached: leveltar2.jpg (1310x844, 466K)

Pic in the op doesn't look all that different.. Looks like they just removed that decoration on top of the tower part. Probably started to decay and they didn't feel the need to keep repairing it.

Postmodern, not brutalist.

It was among the first high-rise buildings in Europe. There was a plan to save the extra levels, but the commies demolished them instead.
You can see the tower in the background on pic related
