Then when Christ was crucified and died he went to Hades and preached the Gospel there. Anyone who wanted to accept His sacrifice for their sins went with Him to Heaven. The others, who rejected the Gospel just like many in earth do, wait for Judgement Day when they'll be cast into Hell. There's some debate between denominations on if Hades is the same as Hell and souls just get tossed back there on Judgement Day or if it's not so bad and Hell is yet to be opened for business.
