But you're not dealing with some "hot rock sitting and waiting to magically heat up and erupt".

As I said. The surface temperature (or whatever you want to try and do to it) has nothing to do with the actual eruption cause by the core/magma reservoir. In fact throwing anything in will just increase the pressure and,subsequently, the heat.
