Honestly I think it's great that they do this and hope they continue to liberalize. Admittedly a little disappointing that they couldn't achieve something more holistic or "Juche" style with their means of exchange. In the end market distribution is too powerful of a system. But it could have been wrapped up in a traditionalist aesthetic, for the tourists at least.

They are doing better than the white people in Rhodesia and South Africa. They have enough resources to sustain themselves, unlike North Korea and their blockades were nothing to what North Korea has being put through since the fall of the Soviet Union.
