What's the connection, if any? Does it just seem this way because I'm on this Sudanese Shrimping Enthusiast blog, biased because I'm at the bleeding heart of it?
Or is there something about Anime and Japanese Culture that resonated with Conservative values?

I think it's just that a lot of internet right-wingers do not actually understand politics or anime. Politics is just trolling and trying to get reactions out of people. And it's incredibly tribal.
The fact that feminists have targeted anime or games before with outrage doesn't help too.
Anime kinda attracts people with social anxiety too so violent manifestation of that anxiety might lead to tribalism of right-wing politics too.
If you actually try to process the values and stuff of the majority of the anime then it's quite obvious that it's a liberal media. It's as far from conservative values as you could probably get.

While anime is terrible and people who watch it are terrible it is the last bastion of great Western storytelling. Anime plots often revolve around groups of people working together to overcome an enemy and in doing so they overcome their differences. They have characters and development. Western stories used to be like this, now they're contrived vehicles for dopamine in self contained 90 minute or 45 minute slots where capeguy 1 has to smash the shit out of capeguy 2 because capeguy 3 is tricking them both in to thinking the other is the badguy, then they realise this and smash the shit out of capeguy 3 together then make a thinly veiled reference to modern political activities.
