The alt-right and the SJW left are both rooted in emotions rather than logic. In the case of the alt right it's fear and disgust, in the case of the SJWs it's moral outrage, but they're identical in allowing irrational emotions to rule them.

No one is 100% logical, and nearly all political spectrums have various sacred cows that don't do anything good. That said, 'conservatism' as it is generally practiced by its adherents tends to be rabidly anti-intellectual, anti-elite (elite being anyone whose education or accomplishments make the conservative 'feel' inferior or inadequate). You add into this the general xenophobia and dislike of new concepts and ideas, and you end up with a population that values its feefees and MUH SYMBOLS FOR MORONS more than logical, science based outcomes, and then projects this REALLY hard onto people they have decided are their enemies (their 'enemies' are trying to help them because, well, they were never their enemies to begin with).
