Yeah my brother is catholic and lives in a different part of the state he refuses to join but missionaries snuck and cleaned his gutters for him anyway. To join you have to meet with the local missionaries. Before we baptize someone there are different gospel lessons that need to be taught and certain important commandments. I think it has great institutional structures and rules, but the church history is wonky. Those like me who can overlook that are fine with it, but its weird for me to see the church basically drifting slowly to alt right territory and also move towards more mainline christian beliefs, I think the religion has peaked since the people who want to convert and be loyal are not really wanted by the church (non-huwytes). I have been in the church for a lot of years (born in it) and I am disappointed. Now considering orthodox Christianity.

I'm an atheist, so their religions beliefs seem equally absurd to most other religions, but as far as actions go they're fantastic people, at least outwardly.

Every Mormon I've met met seems to have a great family life and a genuine care for other people. Other than the ones that come to my door once a year, I've never been preached to by one of them. Personal religious beliefs of the people they help seem to have no effect on the amount of affection they show to humanity. They have some wacky beliefs, but I'd rather live in a Mormon majority country than a Christian majority one.

For context, one of my family members was a teacher and terminally ill. He's had several students that grew up in Mormon families, and the people from these families have been the most supportive of any of the people he's interacted with. My family member has several families that visit once or twice a week and cook dinners and visit with him for hours, despite him being a Catholic. There's never any "quid pro quo" or pressure to convert, it's just pure, no strings attached, love.

I don't know what their home lives are, but none of the several kids I've interacted with seemed fucked up.
