Social justice insanity is the product of post-structuralist philosophy which has its origins in Paris. This philosophy was imported into anglo-american nations in the 1970s and saw widespread adoption in literature departments in the 1980s. It then spread to other departments in the humanities. The 1990s saw the first wave of political correctness, inspired by the work of depraved homosexual Michel Foucault (the father of political correctness).

Unfortunately for the anglo-american left they were unwittingly fed a poison pill by these cynical frenchmen. Before this went down liberalism was a simple logical continuation of the enlightenment liberalism that came before. The frenchmen were decidedly anti-enlightenment, instead inspired by the works of Nietzsche (the abraham of postmodernism) and Heidegger (the jesus of postmodernism). This has resulted in a new, schizophrenic left that doesn't know what to do with itself. It's some of the most self defeating shit I've ever seen.

I've read Foucault just fine. I would have gone into more detail but I'd be here all night. The issue is that a lot of the new left haven't read Foucault despite invoking his name. They read secondary sources inspired by Foucault that mangle his ideas. In reality he would have been horrified to see his ideas used in an ideologically driven manner to make normative arguments when his goal was to provide an analysis of existing power structures.
