I think it's a physical thing to a certain extent. Have tried to get blacks to say "ask" properly. They're physically incapable of making the "sk" sound - they have to reverse the letters. Same for for the words "wasps" "tests" "tasks" etc. A lot of them are self-conscious about it too... It's one of the reasons you can tell you're talking to a black person on the phone, even when they've worked hard to perfect their accent. I've probably spent too much of my life thinking about this...
