The book is pretty degenerate, but not more than most classic books for their time. Basically a girl rips her Anus when shaving, and ends up in a hospital. She then lies in bed and her daddy issues are showing when the male nurse appears, because he actually cares for her wellbeing. She also contemplates why she is such a failure a lot and takes a look back at important moments in her life that turned her into a worthless slut.

It is a good read, but it is very graphic with describing body functions. Bodily functions are kind of taboo. That is why people are "shocked" by the book.
