We could have succeeded with this method, all we had to do was be a better alternative to the Taliban in the eyes of the Afghan people and we would have won easily. The problem is we fucked that up because we didn't present them with a tangible solution to their problems, we tried to give western ideas to them too early (e.g. women not being property) and our troops weren't disciplined enough (incidents of dumb assholes throwing puppies off cliffs or giving piss bottles to kids) so we just looked like a bunch of asshole invaders to the Afghans
