Peak oil is my favorite conspiracy theory

Keep paying more for something that's infinitely renewable goy

what

oil is the best renewable energy source we got

this is from 9 years ago lol

I'm not qualified to scientifically say oil is almost infinite but it is convenient we were supposed to hit peak oil years ago according to all the MSM rags and here we keep drilling more.

Reminds me of that experiment where a simulated early Earth environment produced amino acids - the building blocks of DNA.
Problem remains for both of these though: building blocks are not a finished product, there is a missing step before the profit.
>Still hopeful.

we'll never run out of oil

When CO2 hits the 3000ppm mark oil will have been all but consumed and the earth will be green with life.

Even if oil is produced abiotically, if shithole countries keep industrializing and populations keep growing we will outpace it eventually

Peak oil is an economic impossibility

The kind of person that believes in peak oil thinks higher taxes help the economy

Peak oil is like saying you will hit a wall, true until otherwise.
People neglect to understand terms.

But this about renewable oil is retard level stuff. Even muh Syx pushed it once.

That's what they said about Tulips back in the 1600s

the earth's ocean will fill with oil before we can ever outpace it

just watch the oil price, if oil is not a renewable you should invest ALL your money in it.

By my understanding, fracking has helped a lot, but until we find a means of creation (wanted to say production) with a measurable rate, we are only delaying the problem.
Once that means is found though, there is still the problem of matching rate of creation with rate of use.

The US pumped it into the ground after all above ground storages were full. Common enough storage technique. Where the fuck can you store all they liberated from the ME.

I love all of these eschatological fears:
>peak oil (should have run out 30 years ago)
>climate change (we hit a new point of no return every decade or so
>Social Security insolvency (been pushing that date out as long as Ive been alive)
>peak population (still throwing away more food than we produce after all these years)
These shitheads are no different than soapbox crazies shouting about the end of days.

They make money from it

>>peak oil (should have run out 30 years ago)
big oil started this psyop in the 1950s, so it's been 80 years

The true horror of knowledge is not the wall but the dark.

Abiogenic oil is widely seen as a joke in petroleum geology. It's not that hydrocarbons cannot be created inside the Earth's crust, they can under the right conditions, however the hydrocarbons that CAN be created in the Earth's interior are often simple, short chained hydrocarbons, not complex organic hydrocarbons that we see as the result of burial and pressure and heat applied to decaying plant / sea organisms.

It's not renewable in the slightest, nor is it something we should continue to consume at the levels we currently consume it.

CTO of Tesla recently came to my town, he's doing basically a book/product shill tour, and he straight-up admitted that peak oil is false and that electric car manufacturers shouldn't depend on "oil bad! bad for environment! gonna run out soon!" as arguments in favor of their products.

this, peak tulips when?

if you're going to screencap a fake news article you should least make the effort to write like a copy editor

t. big oil shill

i and the father are one, one is hydrogen
carbon 12 666 paired with hydrogen makes
crude oil.

oil is nothing more than digested souls being
shit out by saturn to make more oil.

think about it, a child points to the ground
when asked where hell is. we're supposed
to be in the land of milk and honey but instead
are in the land of piss and shit, funny how
oil has the same colour as honey right?

I am pretty sure the idea is that we are burning it faster than it can naturally re-form. No one is arguing against conservation of mass. The reason peak oil is bullshit is that there is much more usable fossil fuel in the earth's crust than those doomsday idiots thought.

prior to 2000, gas was 1 a gallon for ages. then drastically went to $3-4 a gallon

what happened?
>peak oil ponzi scheme

fabricated peak oil propaganda is a creation of oil mafia to gouge oil prices

we were told that we passed peak oil more than a decade ago
>the rise in oil prices over the last decade was a result of the peak oil crisis
>shale oil utilized, price does not decrease
>already way past peak oil and Saudi declares it will dramatically increase oil supply, indefinitely
>shale business goes bust
>oil prices decline rapidly

all of a sudden peak oil propaganda magically disappears. we can close all the shale business and just rely on Saudi increased production once more.

i heard that the gov't actually subsidized production and purchase of gas-guzzling SUVs that get 10 miles per gallon. it is ironic that the increase in production and purchases of SUVs coincided with the peak oil crisis with dramatic rise in gas price.

it is absurd to see US going to war "for oil" because of "peak oil", "oil shortages", "oil price increases" and yet, at the same time they increase production of gas-guzzling SUVs, becoming the most common car on the road. The gov't even funded and subsidized purchases of SUVs for the population.

and at the same time: magically stop shale oil production, magically increase Saudi oil production, magically have dramatic oil price declines..

The bastards are at like 80% storage capacity in the Cushing storage facility despite shutting down almost 800 rigs. They've tried to keep those prices up, hard, shutting down rigs, "refinery maintenance", labor strikes, the works. Fuel prices are still up compared to crude.
All of this without even considering all the new crude found and the abandoned projects.
It was all a ruse and the Saudi's showed they're willing to fuck everyone over market share.

exact same scam as the Oil/Energy Crisis ruse

California electricity crisis, also known as the Western U.S. Energy Crisis, was a situation in which the United States state of California had a shortage of electricity supply caused by market manipulation by big corporations like Enron

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_electricity_crisis
youtu.be/tSUvUUMTshw?t=106

The passed “CAFE” refs so the manufacturers started marketing unregulated trucks and SUVs. Consumers aren’t all libtards so CAFE never worked and our roads are flooded with trucks and SUVs.

Disaster prediction are always made more often than a disaster can possibly happen. Doesn't change that disasters DO happen eventually.

Also, my every bet that the scientists involved usually said something like "we will run out by X unless we find sources we don't know yet" - the media doesn't usually include those little details. Newsflash, we did find new sources - but they are becoming ever harder to exploit. Finding and exploiting new sources over and over again is literally impossible - the peak will come, at some point.

Oh, and people thinking it won't happen eventually because it hasn't happened yet, or because previous predictions were wrong, are retarded. Our knowledge that oil is finite and peak oil a certainty is independent of when it will happen. Imagine a guy suffering from AIDS. Doctors give him 10 years to live. Then new medicine comes out after 8 years, they give him another 10. Then aids is healed, they give him another 30 until he dies of old age. Then new anti aging is developed...
BUT HE WILL DIE EVENTUALLY. We know that, independently of whatever illnesses he has or he had cured. You need to trust the actual prediction as to when it will happen, but you can be absolutely sure that it will happen.

the peak oil meme is from 60 years ago.

I suggest the renewable biotic theory- that extremophiles (radiotrophic, chemotrophic, etc) bacteria within the crust of the earth slowly excrete organic materials as they break down energy sources, forming the basis for hydrocarbons to form under pressure. As the worlds' plates move areas of high and low pressure form and move, squeezing this material especially through porous or heterogeneous material into areas of lowest pressure forming bubbles which grow increasingly larger and more refined in some cases.

For sure there's a way to synthesize petrol that they're hiding to avoid 3rd party petrol manufacturers

>conspiracy theory conspiracy theory conspiracy theory conspiracy theory
Found the glowing shill

"Renewable" meaning what? How much per year? I could take this theory more seriously if it included this information. Is it conveniently whatever amount humans want to use?

funny enough the Enron scandal files were in the SEC office that was destroyed when WTC 7 was demolished, among other things, img related

There is absolutely no evidence for the hypothesis that petroleum formation is abiogenic. Further, there is very good predictive capability for the current theory of petroleum formation. That being said, there is some evidence that some natural gas (i.e., methane) could be abiogenic in origin; existing petroleum formation theory does not account for the massive volumes of methane hydrates on the ocean floor, for example, and methane commonly occurs elsewhere in the solar system in tremendously vast volumes.

Oil, though? Not so much; heavier hydrocarbons have no known formation mechanism besides what is currently described.

t. geological engineer in the oil industry

Actually, Peak Oil been a recurring theme in the oil industry since its inception. One geologist famously wagered that he would drink every drop of oil discovered West of the Mississippi, and that it only existed in a few small places in the United States in relatively small volumes.

Peak oil can be avoided by liberating oil from a militarily weak democracy every 20 years.

The United States is now the world's #1 producer of oil and has absolutely vast domestic reserves. And we haven't even begun to tap the potential of LTO. Not only this, LTO wells can be drilled and completed in huge numbers in a matter of days, meaning if the price of oil rises even a small amount, the U.S. immediately swoops in and turns on production. It can also be turned on and off as needed.

Because of this, the U.S. actually stands to benefit from distrupting the oil supply of chief competitors like OPEC and Russia, because it only gains marketshare as production stagnates in any of these nations. And, true to form, the U.S. *is* taking market share from them.

>I suggest the renewable biotic theory- that extremophiles (radiotrophic, chemotrophic, etc) bacteria within the crust of the earth slowly excrete organic materials as they break down energy sources, forming the basis for hydrocarbons to form under pressure.
Extremophiles could very well be a huge source of methane, but merely putting methane under pressure and heat doesn't turn it into a heavier hydrocarbon. You need heavier organic materials for that; i.e., billions of tons of dead plankton accumulated on the seabeds of deep marine depositional environments. We have mountains of evidence for this as being the primary mechanism of petroleum formation and a really good track record for prediction with it, and there are no known extremophile bacteria that produce the kinds of organic materials necessary for petroleum formation
