"Known generically as sufentanil, it’s a new formulation of a drug currently given intravenously. Critics say it will be incredibly easy for health workers to pocket and divert the drug to the illicit drug market and because it is so small and concentrated, it will likely kill people who overdose on it.
“This is a dangerous, reckless move,” said Dr. Sidney Wolfe senior adviser of Public Citizen’s Health Research Group. He questions whether there’s need for yet another synthetic opioid when the U.S. is in the throes of an opioid overdose crisis."
The US seems to have a powerful pharma lobby in place. We don't even have stuff like oxycodone in the rest of the world. And for a good reason. When I was operated on and was under heavy pain, I was told to go to the pharmacy and buy ibuprofen over the counter.

From amphetamine to ritalin to opioids to ssri's. And, aside from the ones that have readily apparent negative side effects (like addiction) the bulk of the medicines available (and all of the newer ones) have not been adequately tested by any measure. We simply do not know what they do at a molecular level. Hell, we dont even have how body chemistry works adequately defined for us to be prescribing such medications in the first place. Moreover, we do not know what sort of inheritable changes these medicines could cause.

SSRIs aren't addictive. Ritalin if prescribed for anything but a real attention deficit disorder however is. And so are opioids. I mean anybody with a bit of knowledge could see from afar that twiddling on morphine's molecule and putting it in tablets would lead to an epidemic of addiction. I still wonder how it got through the process of approval as a prescibable drug.
I mean there are people who are legitimately in a great deal of pain. But giving them opium and telling them "take as needed" creates junkies. There's no other way of saying it.

when i was operated on which involved plates and screws being placed within my body they gave me oxycontins. when i quit them i realized i hadnt shit in about 3 weeks and proceeded to experience worse pain trying to shit than i did having someone re break and piece my shoulder back together
