Most likely scenario according to polls is the Dems take the House, probably by a narrower margin than they'd hoped, and the Repubs hold on to the Senate, probably gaining seats. The Dems will spend the next two years infighting and obstructing shit but doing little else. Hardline lefties will push for impeachment, moderates from red states will drag their feet. Trump won't be able to get much legislation passed but he can still get judges confirmed. By 2020 Dems will have an even shittier reputation than they do now, as their infighting will demoralize their base and piss off everyone else. 2020 will be an ugly primary on the Dems side.

The US political system is designed for grid lock, democrats would attempt to pass a bunch of bills but nothing would happen because Trump would just veto everything, the president here has the power to stop any bill from passing. Obama got nothing done, because while he was president, Republicans controlled the house and senate for 6/8 years he was in office, also he's a lazy nigger.

Basically if dems take the house or the senate, trumps power will be significantly culled. Any law created must be passed by the house, senate, and president.
If anyone of those mismatch with party alignment, nothing will get passed or done.

The republicans saw this coming, they achieved most of what they wanted in the past 2 years.
A president still has certain powers not reliant on the congress (House, Senate).
But without both you can’t pass laws and you can’t fund a big project without Dem approval.

Congress (i.e. both chambers together) is theoretically the most powerful branch of government but in practice is never unified enough to do very much, and has only been getting more pathetic in recent years.
