I have no idea who these people are getting triggered by the word "slav", we are slavs. The etymology comes either from latin "sklaveni", which is where the word "slave" comes from, or from the word "slovo" which means "word" in slavic. That would make slavs "people of the word" and would logically suit to contrast the word the Polish use for Germans which is "Niemcy" which comes from the word "niemy" (mute, unintelligible).
