Diablo 2 has always been a braindead simple loot treadmill. D2 was little more than a mobile game with excellent music and a great art style.

I mean it. Right down to the fact that the best rune words cost thousands of real life dollars and were impossible to acquire on your own. The only saving grace for Diablo 2 were the bots and dupes. It would have been indistinguishable from a mobile game economy without it.

Diablo fans just don't want to hear it. This is what they want and have been playing for almost two decades.

Diablo 2 inadvertenty popularized real money trading and micro transactions. We are talking TRUE micro transactions, done on the small scale for forum gold or a few dollars.

To this day you can get individual items for a nickel's worth of forum gold. Trading cash for in game items is so ingrained in the Diablo experience that the playerbase maintains this economy almost 20 years later.

Every single item is "soulbound" in D3
It's functionally a single player game. If you're doing rifts for the ladder why would you bring competition along.
D3 is fun for about about 4 hours, one single playthrough, especially considering you can Respec your character in between fights for no cost.

2. The problem is it was their event closer and they acted like it was going to be the next big diablo game

In short, they shit the bed by thinking people wanted the product, when they didn't, they showed it as their big reveal at the end of their show when it should have been an aside at best, and when the crowd started showing how they didn't like it Blizzard got kind of snarky about it.

All of that, 100% of it could be forgiven, but they are actively deleting youtube comments about the game that are negative in opinion, have deleted their game's promo video on youtube and reuploaded to reset the ratings after it got too many thumbs down for their liking and are doing their best to shut up the community about the whole thing.

I never even played or bought it. Diablo died for me when D3 came out. So what's happening now doesn't sting at all for me since I pulled my band-aid off long ago. I'm actually enjoying this. Been pretty angry at Blizzard for many years for making Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 look like warcraft.

I’ve never played the Diablo series but have played other IPs that went through this same shit and yes, it does force a black market.
I played City of Heroes where the 2 most expensive items in the game were the Shield Wall and Gladiators Armor which were hyper rare drops only available in high end pvp. I played almost exclusive pvp for years on end and only received one and I was one of maybe 3 people who I knew ever got the drop.

The items were so rare (on purpose) that it created an underground market for cash and cash substitutes that would range in the price of a Shield Wall or GA to be $50-75 USD. Then because people hoarded just to afford these super rare items, half the game’s stock went into the piles of the super rich and made new players either live in squallor or pony up $50 just to be pvp semi-ready. It caused a massive famine of quality enhancements in the game to the point where Blizzard had to constantly attempt to economy balance which ended up screwing the entire game over and into the ground.
Shit wasnt like party hats in RScape, these were a lot more than just cosmetics. Runewords like Zod sound just like SW/GA.

No man, it would have shiny bright rubber graphics of the warcraft universe. Diablo 2 graphics are artistically beautiful. Gritty, dark, with a hand drawn look to them. It's aged beautifully. It never tried to look modern with the poly graphics at the time. You want to see a poly graphic game of that time? Look up DarkStone, that's what diablo 2 would have looked like, when DarkStone was new, it was considered to have much better graphics than Diablo 2.
If they remaster diablo 2, the only thing they should give it is a higher resolution without making everything small.
