brownsville is a nice place to live, low cost of living and a nice beach 15 minutes away, also violent crime is surprisingly below the national average

I've met some people from the Rio Grande Valley and other border places and the impression I get is that the border region is a land of two extremes. On one extreme its basically Mexico 2.0 where everyone speaks Spanish and don't assimilate at all. But the other extreme is that its what Republicans constantly talk about. I'd say 80 percent of them are basically foreigners and the other 20 percent are Americanized and patriotic to some extent.
