Democrats have over-performed polls in special elections since 2016. Polls said Roy Moore would win in Alabama but he lost.

The difference is that polls and predictions for the 2016 election were all over the place.
One week Trump was a thing then and then the next week Hilary was guaranteed to get in.

Senate is actually more valuable but it's hard to win due to liberal self-sorting.
But to be honest Democrats are actually lucky in the Senate that Clinton didn't win.
With an ugly map this year they might have been devastated in the Senate for generation if they had won the presidency.
With Trump in the White House Democrats at least have a chance for a good fight. Democrats need multiple miracles to win control though.

If Democrats get to 50-50 in the Senate and win House or Governorship in Alaska then maybe Murkowski will become independent and will caucus with Democrats. This is probably the best hope for Democrats to get the Senate this time.

It has to approve budget allocations, which any immigration reform (or anything more involved that determining who can enter state for set periods of time) is going to need to go through the house.

Basically all the big Trump promises are dead in the water, and unless some bipartisan shit goes through it's going to look like Trump's done nothing

It's just that Electoral College is almost impossible to predict. Trump won by a dozen thousands votes in a couple of states. There is no poll accurate enough to predict that.

The electoral college is easier to win if you appeal to rural voters but it is almost impossible to predict because it's much harder to poll rural voters with surgical precision.
