What you need to understand is that it's just as easy to use regulation to make your friends money as it is to use deregulation, this is a cute little truth most people are 100% unaware of. For example, Obama regulated for profit education (ITT, UofPhoenix) because he claimed they were using predatory enrollment practices. Well, when the private universities lost a lot of their market value, Obamas buddies bought up the distressed assets for pennies on the dollar, just in time for Obama to rescind the new regulations. There's a name for this scam, it's called a smash and grab.
Another example, if you read the new residential code you'll notice that in 2020 all new receptacles will need to be GFCI, gfcis are much more expensive than normal receptacles, and they are completely unnecessary in most applications.
