Considering the House traditionally flips at the midterms, it's less of a loss and more of an inevitability. The fact that the losses are far smaller than at the same point in Obama's presidency, plus the somewhat unexpected gains in the Senate (Dems expected to pick up a small majority there) is a pretty strong sign for Trump.

The takeaway from tonight is that the Dems performed worse than expected and the Republicans performed better than expected. The "blue wave" never materialized.
