Demographics matter a lot in terms of economics because phenomenon like rising and falling populations or aging population vs younger populations have direct consequences for a nations economics. Nations with falling populations almost never have robust growth.

On the other hand, in electoral politics there is nothing necessary about any of the current alignments. Blacks or gays could all vote republican, christians could vote democrat. This is a matter of and policy changes over time. Then with healthcare, the sector has grown from 4% to 18% of GDP over 50 years. Has the average american seen a 4.5x increase in their well-being? No. We don't even have a measurable advantage over other countries that spend less but have comparable lifespans and health. And then when it comes to military spending, we outspend everyone by huge multiples yet we couldn't get a positive outcome in afghanistan. The "growth" in GDP didn't translate to a growth in value, power or productivity. GDP also falls victim to the broken window fallacy very easily, making it absurd to use gdp or any other "growth fantasy" in an argument. Its only value is as an indicator.
