D&D 2nd edition was great.

I still remember the impressive array of mage spells and divine spells from Baldur's Gate 2.
It looked almost as if some autistic friend had put all those spells together with love, thoughtfully in all sorts of categories and varieties.

It sure blew the spell systems from other video games out of the waters back then.
When Bioware tried to make their own spell system in Dragon Age, it fell flat and couldn't compare to the old D&D system in comparison in my opinion.

It's sad that had to happen.

Never even learned to play anything properly because learning a system from rule books alone is hard if you've never played an RPG before

Also, another note, the worst thing to have ever happened to tabletop gaming was when video game RPGs came about and then trying to make it seem more like the video games to bring in a larger, more brain dead crowd. 4th Edition and Pathfinder are evidence of this, but EVERYTHING went downhill with 3rd Edition.

I make my players live in a post war scenario where civilisation is maintained by a number of city-states excisting independantly of each other.

Then "someone" attemps to subvert order, throwing the world back into war.
