I think a lot of people considering writing "their thing", because it takes so little technical skill or investment of money or strict learning (as with STEM or even music etc). It's partly why authors' wages are plummeting every year with so much stuff being released. I don't fool myself any more about being a "writer", whatever that means. I've already soiled my reputation, and I simply lack the egoism and blind ambition to make it as a popular writer. I have been collapsing internally for a long time now, most conspicuously since late-2017 but that's only because I became aware of what was happening.
