I'm no historian but they seem to outright ignore this part. Also, now they have a president for life. Have they not learned from Mao what happens when a terrible person gets in power? What the fuck convinced them this was a good idea? How did China go from promising free speech and term limits, to becoming an authoritarian shithole?

*Every* country has that freedom of speech clause. Even British India had it, but then they include "with reasonable restrictions" somewhere later.
E.g. Freedom of Speech is a fundamental right (Article 19, Fundamental Rights of Citizens) in India, but then you have a piece of legislation in the IPC, 126A, that goes somewhat like this:
"Committing depredation on territories of Power at peace with the Government of India.—Whoever commits depredation, or makes preparation to commit depredation, on the territories [Including States and Union territories of the Union of India] of any Power in alliance or at peace with the 1[Government of India], shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to seven years, and shall also be liable to fine and to forfeiture of any property used or intended to be used in committing such depredation, or acquired by such depredation."
Note the use of the word "depredation". Any criticism of the government can be technically put under this. Although few people get jailed due to international pressure from Amnesty and other HR organizations.
