Democrats flipped 5 governorships while Republicans only held onto their existing ones.

It wasn't a win for either party. Republicans already had a majority in the Senate, they just now don't have to rely on Collins to be the final vote anymore. That's really about it. Personally I would say these midterms were more of a Democratic win than a Republican win but that's just me.
