It seems to me there's a lot of misconceptions about centrism like pic related. Here's what it's all about.
Centrism is the ABSENCE of an ideology. Like it or not, Republicans and Democrats uphold their own ideologies. If you identify as Republican, you're automatically subscribed to all of the beliefs of that ideology in the eyes of the public, including banning marijuana, making abortion illegal, muh guns, heavy bible thumping, WAR WAR WAR!, anti-gay marriage, etc, etc. Same goes for if you identify as Democrat, you're automatically KILL ALL BABIES!, muh gay rights, smoke weed erryday, socialism > capitalism, social justice ftw, etc.
But what if you don't support ALL of the beliefs your ideology identifies with? Maybe you look at the other side and go "HEY! Weed is pretty cool I guess." That's what the idea around centrism is. It just means you have beliefs from both ideologies. You CAN have beliefs that come from both sides. For example, I bet a lot of you support the second amendment AND want weed to be legalized.
Centrism is inherently ANTI-POLARIZATION. Polarization of the political field increases hostility and decreases productive progress because we're all so busy in our own little echo chambers that we won't even give the other side a second thought and just dismiss them as "evil" or "cucked". This is counter-productive. When you're a Republican, you're more likely to blindly believe things that that ideology stands for, even if you don't necessarily agree with it but you just want to support YOUR side.

Centrists have strong beliefs, they're just extremely varied from person to person. For example, I voted for Donald Trump because I knew voting for Hillary would mean World War 3. I love my husband, as I'm a married man, but we also keep guns in the house for protection. I think people should have the right to choose whether or not they want to kill their unborn baby (because it's theirs), but I also believe we need much stricter immigration policies. We have strong beliefs and we want change just as much as you do.

Centrism doesn't exist, because the choices we're given are a lie. Left vs right is a logical fallacy known as a false dilemma, the ruling class uses this fallacy (humans are really bad at spotting and deciphering false dilemma fallacies) in order to divide and conquer the electorate. Also, it's a convenient way for the ruling class to enact policies, and at least ensure half of the totally fucking retarded electorate supports said policy. For example, if some special interest is losing money because an upstart is bringing them competition, the ruling class will use the democrats to enact regulations that give that industry a higher barrier to entry. If some special interest group needs to dump their garbage in a river, then the ruling class uses the republicans to deregulate that activity.
I don't know why this is so complicated for people to understand. Left vs right is like literally choosing between your left or your right hand.
