A nation is a people with a common past, specifically a common origin. A folk is a people with a common future, specifically a common destination. Authentic National Socialists are folkish nationalists. Folkish nationalism is not to be confused with civic nationalism. Civic nationalism is, like ethnonationalism, concerned with preserving the traditional culture of a country, but merely differs from ethnonationalism in that it does not require the preservers to be unanimously the blood descendants of those traditional ancestors. The consequence of successful folkish nationalism, in contrast, would be the creation of a new culture altogether.

Social Contracts are formed by groups of people who share one or more common unifying factors.
The most powerful of these factors is ethnicity, weaker ones are religion, language etc.
You can easily observe that by putting a hundred strangers in a room, they will soon form groups based on these factors.
Now if you built a nation with more than on dominant ethnicity you will get the same outcome.
People will form blocks based on their ethnicity. You could say they will form their own social contracts withing the reigning one. That means they will act in the interest of their respective group before the interest of the collective.
This is more or less stable as long as the reigning group is clearly dominant. But at some point the balance is tipped and society becomes unstable, that is the stadium south africa is in today.
Then after some more time, the newly risen block begins to question the purpose of the persisting social contract. That is when open conflict breaks out and either on side is subdued(/eradicated) or the nation balkanizes.
