A revolver is a good choice. A shotgun isnt bad either, so long as its a shorter one and your not so bad you hit your wall instead of the target.

A suppressed pistol in 9mm with a flashlight. Guns are loud as fuck indoors and you’re not going to have time to put in ear pro. A Glock with a griffin armament can or something like that on it.

Ideally a metal frame full size 9mm loaded with 124 gr +p speer gold dots. Night sights with a different colored front sight. Depends on your budget and preferences. For me ideal is Sig P226 X5 tactical (expect to pay around 2k, worth every damn penny, get the older style not the new). Deal is an older W. German Sig P226, ~$600. New and mid range price Sphinx compact (despite the name its rather full size), ~$800. If you must go polymer fuck glocks, triggers and ergos suck dick. Walther PPQ or HK VP9.

Home Defense? Not a shotgun. Simple 9m. Heard too many stories of dudes using shotguns and shooting the burglar, only for the spread to hit other family members.

The first round thing is for single actions. Don’t limit yourself. Take a double action revolver to the range and hit the hammer with a mallet. You get nothing. Do it with a single action and you may get a boom.

If your intent is legal use of lethal force, I'd say a full size glock (5" barrel, full size grip), NOT a carry piece like a G19 or something.

Also a mossberg shotgun is a good option.

You want something big, easy to handle when you're groggy. Fine motor skills go out the window quick.

A simple light weight AR. Use TAP rounds or something similar. No extra bullshit other than a red dot that co witnesses with the a frame and a tac light.

Room
Home
Property.

For the room I want something handy and easy to use. Lest chance of malfunction so I'd go with a revolver, no higher than .38 and hollow point because I don't want to be destroying my own shit.

For the home I want something that covers a large area, but without blasting through walls. So I would go with a shotgun any pumpgun really and 12 gauge.

For property I want something accurate at longer ranges and high capacity for surpressive fire for me to fall back into my home. AR15 or any AK variant (I prefer AK for stopping power and I like wood on steel guns)

I've shot a lot of 1911s and never had any problems. Even the meme cheap ones. Plus 1911s look sexy as fuck.

If you want a 45 handgun get a older USP, don’t get a fucking single stack 1911 and the double stack versions suck ass

I've seen it plenty and had it happen to me with a few different brands. The 1911 was designed in a time when guns were made by proper gun smiths and not just shit some le 56%er slapped together on a factory line. Also it was designed in a time before hollow points existed so most 1911s don't feed HPs that well. There's an extremely long and autistic thread on 1911 forums about all this. The long and short of it is the magazine is usually the point of failure on 1911s. Your 2 choices to make it reliable are getting wilson 47d mags or use the old 7rd mag. With the wilson the round actually floats free for a split second, which gives a chance of it fucking up but does well enough most of the time. Also if I have a say in the matter 1911s should be made with all machined bar stock and or forged parts, no metal injection molding (most companies have shit qc on mim parts). Cheapest non mim 1911s are STI and Dan Wesson. Most expensive are the usual wilson and nighthawk.

AR15. 5.56 won't over-penetrate (as in you won't have to worry about shooting through multiple walls in your home and them firing out into your neighborhood). Unless you have paper thin walls, 5.56 NATO is perfectly suited for home defense. Alternatively a handgun. Just get something you're comfortable with using that's magazine fed and become proficient with its use.

You do not want to rely on a shotgun in a home defense scenario. And you certainly do not want to subscribe to the racking a shotgun sound to scare off an intruder myth. Shotguns are great, but they're not for home defense unless you have literally nothing else or if everything else you have is substandard. The racking sound myth is the dumbest piece of fuddlore that's perpetuated by dumbasses. Do not give your fucking location away to a home invader. You want to have the drop on them.

I like mk318. 62 gr OTM with the same trajectory as M855. So when you run out of your special ammo no need to adjust your sights to pick up a mag full of green tips.

i have used HP in my colt defender no problem i also dont really see the point in using them in .45 they are not really moving fast enough to expand they dont shrink but expansion isnt really the point of a 45

The RI is a good entry level 1911. Do some polishing, G10 grips, better extractor, stronger spring, you’re golden.

Brits complain a lot about not having guns, but very few actually bother to exercise their right to own one. I gave up in Jow Forums trying to explain handguns are still legal in the UK. I think they're jealous (that US can actually own one soley for purpose of self defense).
I've a shotgun cert and a Firearms licence and I'm working on trying to get an entitlement under section 5 (which I've probably buggered up by talking about guns on Jow Forums)

One way you can get one is my registering as a trader or manufacturer. You're required to keep them locked away at a higher level of security.
Private citizens can get one by registering as a trader in militaria. They put their collections up for sale but never actually sell them. They keep them locked in a gun clubs safe.

You can also get a handgun for humane dispatch which is also a section 5 entitlement.

Outside of this you can get it for reseatch purposes, like many universities have for studying ballistics etc.
