This. Fighting will start when one side decides, rightly or wrongly, that it has no effective political power. If some happy coincidences and boxes of 90% democratic votes turn up in a few states that put them juuuust ahead of the republican winner the week before, things are going to get messy.

If Trump or other president goes full fascist/socialist dictator route and pisses on the Constitution then it's quite possible that there will be a civil war between loyalists and rebels.
Some states with governors from opposition party will secede and form a new union.

Other routes are big foreign war with high opposition in the population, or big terrorism with martial law, or major economic breakdown.

Everything short of that will be solved with limited political warfare. No one is dumb enough to destroy the US over minor cultural problems like immigration, welfare, abortion, or political correctness.

Probably wouldn't escale to outright war, at least not quickly. We'd end up looking like Lebanon or the late Wiemar Republic where political parties have unofficial ties to paramilitaries that fight between each other and suppress votes for the other side but only using coercion within the system rather than trying to topple it. There aren't any clear geographic boundaries so violence will just simmer then boil over then go back to simmering. That or Mexicans hit critical mass in the West and they start on their Aztlan shit. That's what I'm most concerned about tbqh. We can deal with violent elections or even revolts, they've been the norm before but an actual insurgency, even a low level one, will be unprecedented and might be too much for democratic system to recover from.

I don't hate my community enough to wage war on either the government or people I have mutual disagreement with. Everyone here in Arizona is doing them, and democrats are owned by conservatives in this state. Everyone here is under the impression they should just hustle, take vacations, do recreational activities, and avoid confrontation.
