What caused all of the huge and escalating wars to stop after WW2?
Surley our second attempt at Peaceful World Order hasnt been able to out do the first (League of nations)
So is it literally just nukes that have prevented another World War, have governments been purchased to ensure there isn't a war that could hurt trade?

Mutual Assured Destruction. (MAD) War makes progress. Nukes make progress obsolete.

Yup. Just nukes. Apparently leaders of nations are resistant to wars that endanger their lives. Of course, now that they've stolen trillions of dollars and used that to build underground bunkers, that will probably change.

>Nukes make progress obsolete.
So we're on autopilot indefinetly because of nukes?
And how are Nukes not MAD war?

Nukes and EU.

>EU
what a funny way to spell NATO

>So we're on autopilot indefinetly because of nukes?
Pretty much. They have stopped survival of the fittest.

>And how are Nukes not MAD war?
First Strike without Counterstrike is virtually impossible now. We've proliferated to the point and developed accuracy to the point to assure virtually world ending (as we know it) devastation. The survivors would mostly be Hues and Africa. You can't advance a species with those cultures. It would take 200,000 years to see the Internet again.

>War makes progress. Nukes make progress obsolete.

this is a very pessimistic presumption of violent conflict being the ONLY type of competition that can drive progress, and/or of violent conflict being made inevitable by power existing at all (where most leftists fall).

we could have still had progress of personal agency enhancing technologies (as opposed to just telecom-as-MK-backbone). it's not MAD, it's simple tyranny. MAD is just how they've sold it you.

Fuck off with you EU, it’s nukes!

NATO is not gonna stop european countries from fucking each other up like they've done for 1000 years.
The EU does make it harder, they're now economically intertwined, soon enough they'll be militarily intertwined too.

Keep telling yourself that, we'll come back for you eventually.

I compassionately and politely disagree. All technological advancements are driven by war. Resource exploitation is advanced by the need to balance Guns, Butter and Plowshares. Without the need to be the proverbial 'Last Man Standing', progress stagnates.

The machines you and I are using in this debate were created by Cold War Necessity and given over to civil life when resources could be expended to do so.

Suburban sprawl, where you and I are (likely) both talking from was developed as a way to prevent an entire city of labor from being destroyed in a single nuke.

I will give you oligarchic rule is also stagnation, sadly. It is a byproduct of peace. Revolution also breeds progress, but Breads & Circuses satiate minds and stall creation. Peace is Death.

NATO doesn't stop its members from going to war with each other
ok my dude

like europeans haven't shat all over themselves and their nations to attack their neighbors at their own economic expense before. a common currency isn't going to stop that, strong external actors what can destroy the world stop that. i know you EU cucks are seething every time a member nation shits on your migrant quotas and you or germany would gladly take them to task for it if it wouldn't result in a world conflict that would bring nukes into it.

Nukes should have never been made a reality. We could have duked it out with the Soviets back in the 80s after all the Gen Xers saw the original Red Dawn and First Blood.

>like europeans haven't shat all over themselves and their nations to attack their neighbors at their own economic expense before

Like when?
EU started with the EEC. It's an economic union first and foremost, peace is just a consequence. For members it's more profitable to be at peace within the EU than at war.

>catastrophic loss of life
Same reason the Civil War didn't last longer

WWI and wasn't very profitable for euros either, but that didn't stop them from destroying their nations in an ever increasing acts of desperation over stupid shit that didn't matter to them at all. economic hardship doesn't deter war, especially if it will be counteracted by triumph over a foe and looting the shit out of their nation.

>Nukes should have never been made a reality. We could have duked it out with the Soviets back in the 80s after all the Gen Xers saw the original Red Dawn and First Blood.
Based and redpilled.

WW1 got out of hand, to say the least. It wasn't supposed to go like that.

>wasn't supposed to go like that
uh huh. strong argument there. but it did go like that, and it would go like that again in a heartbeat again if it wasn't for nukes.

WW1 was supposed to be quick.
>b-but muh nukes
The whole point of nukes is the mutually assured destruction. Which means you can't ever use them. Which makes them pointless. The fact that everyone them that matters has them makes it the most useless weapon in history. WW1 would go exactly like that again with nukes.

>you remember that time russia and america went to war but didn't use nukes, because, like, everyone knows you cant use nukes so it's, like, they totally don't factor into international relations!

I wasn't a war, it was never declared. It was a pissing contest.

nukes

Breton Woods
Not the UN, all of the allied countries in the world giving up their security responsibilities to the US.

If Poland doesn’t leave the union for this it’s over for them. Hungary too

War didnt stop it evolved
