I never really understood why they rebelled. IIRC the machines made paradise real and were able to sate any hunger humanity had not to mention keep them safe. Then a new religion pops up from nowhere and forces them into a civil war. Then they blame the machine for retaliating because they were resisting to be turned off when they're specifically programmed to help them so it's in the machine's interest to stay on because something must've gone wrong with humanity in order for them to want them off.
