You can build structures in FL like pic related, theres codes to follow, hurricane strapping to use and other regulations on design like the angle of slope on roofs, but they withstand hurricanes now, its old stuff from the 1700s up to 70s or 80s that are at risk, like the oldest wooden school house in the united states is in Florida, withstood numerous hurricanes and standing longer than any other states, the oldest mansonry fort in the united states is in Florida, hurricane is no excuse if you have competent engineering and building quality

Brick and stone lose heat, poor insulation, and will crush you more in an earthquake. Wood flexes, brick walls crack. I've already ridden through a big quake in this house, fuck bricks.
