Another analogy would be getting a piece of candy to eat once a week, as opposed to everyday. The less common something is the more valuable it becomes. But now we live an Epicurean nightmare where almost sensual pleasures are indulged 24/7 and in order to get some kind of feeling people seek out greater and greater pleasures to fill the void of their lives. I would argue that elimination of fun is not the goal but rather getting it back to something more simple and based less upon hedonism and materialism.
