At 85 if you break ribs, especially as a woman, they're odds are not going to heal, osteoporosis having set in unless she is truly lucky or unique, and judging by the rest of her health, she is none of the above.

Broken bones as elderly are pretty much a death sentence, even hairline cracks are a major deal, especially ribs, as positional asphyxia is easy.

For now. She is still injured. The reason she left the hospital is the same reason all old people leave the hospital. Most doctors will tell you to leave as soon as possible because you can pick up any number of sicknesses at a hospital.

My mother has no immune system so once she is checked and healthy she immediately leaves the hospital.

All that being said she needs to be super careful anything that will restrict breathing can put you in a bad place and she might get pneumonia.
