I posted the navy seal copypasta in an unofficial college Facebook group. Someone didn't get it and called the cops. Now the college is getting involved. What can I do to protect myself?
This happened in Washington state. A couple of days ago a friend and I were teasing each other over Facebook. He posted a meme and I replied to his comment with the famous navy seal copypasta. He thought it was hilarious and that was the end of it. Until today.
This morning I was escorted out during class to a police officer, who told me that I had apparently posted a threatening message in a Facebook group and that a student believed I was going to possibly shoot up the school so they called the police. I explained that it was a popular meme on the Internet, that I absolutely was not going to harm anyone, and I was not a homicidal maniac. I didn't even cook the pasta myself or add sauce

Don't worry, it gets worse. I also received a letter from the college that they had a complaint and there would be a formal hearing to determine if I should be expelled. For now I am also banned from attending classes until it is resolved. I don't even know who called the police so I can't ask them why they tried to get me in such trouble instead of, you know, talking to me. Or looking up the meme.
From my perspective it looks like the worst possible misunderstanding of an Internet meme of all time. My question is this: I definitely, 100%, am not going to commit any violent act, hurt anyone, etc. So what steps can I take now to fix all of these troubles and clear my name?
