I was too young to have a political sense at the time, but I do know that the "before" years before 9/11 was filled with just as much political shitflinging, but it was much less mean spirited than it is now.
Before it was literally just watching rich people play a very expensive football game. Clinton and Dole in 1996 actually had problems with their campaigns because they were so similar to each other. The two had to compromise to take different stances on different issues just to not confuse their voting base.
I miss the era of literally not giving a shit about politics and laughing at those who do.
