This. In natural forests untouched by man, lightening will cause fires to burn off dead trees but the healthy trees will survive and become stronger. Without that burnoff the forest becomes full of dead wood that turns what would have been a small burn no more than a few inches tall into a raging inferno. Now, you want to know what not? Well, in Generation X's time, we already went through "manmade global warming" scare. It was part of the consequences that was tossed in if we didn't fix the ozone whole in 10 to 15 years. This probably predates you, but back when we were kids, there was a huge panic that the ozone layer way up in the atmosphere was being destroyed by human women and human hairdressers and modern air conditioning. The areosols in cans that sprayed (like hair styling spray) and the main chemical that was used in refriderating systems (like your AC or refridgerator) was highly reactive with ozone. Down here deep in the atmosphere, it just made smog go away. (Smog is ozone). But high in the atmosphere, it made our protective ozone layer get big gaping holes in it. That lets in lots more UV light and heat. More UV light means high cancer rates, and more heat means man made global warming.
So, after all that scaring of Gen X that they were PERSONALLY destroying all life on this planet, well, all that happened was the company that just lost its patent on the refridgerator chemical got the world to swap over to its newly patented refridgerator chemical, and most spray cans changed which chemicals they use to make the spray, spray. The ozone hole remained after all that effort, but cancer rates didn't go up as claimed, and the earth didn't over heat as claimed.
So, the older people have already been through this scare once, and that was all false. So now they view the next man-made crisis with similar claims as either mistaken or outright scam.

Hey, wait a minute! Burning coal causes cooling! But the CO2 it releases causes warming? And trees cause global warming--- but the CO2 they contain (only while alive) is removed from the atmosphere so that must cause global cooling? But the CO2 in the tree is immediately reclaimed by the eco-sphere as soon as its dead, so all the carbon locked up in the tree will only be locked up for an additional 5 years to 50 years, unless the tree is buried in something very cold and lacking oxygen.
