I think one the more important points in the book and in the movie is that a literal sociopath is shown fitting it with people who show a complete disconnect with normal people and society in such away that paint themselves as more vain and awful than Patrick Bateman is. Inherently, the people he's surrounded by are motivated and manipulated by shallow and hedonistic feelings, while Bateman is essentially a fucking robot, but even he hates these people with a passion, but not just because of narcissistic impulses. It's a brilliant insult towards people in general that hold themselves up as compassionate pariahs of human achievement.
I know every line to this movie after immediately after Doubles Guy came out over on /b/ and it worked well as a precursor to my own political advancement aligning with 2016, quite well.
