nobody really gives a shit until someone compares us to America. most Canadians don't feel 'British' because they aren't and the ones that are don't care for the most part, or they join historical reenactment groups and masturbate over it there.

its not like people don't have any pride in the Crown in Canada. it's just not a thing that is brought up very often,
normally they dont - its people have direct links or can trace their lineage back to when their ancestors originally came over that have the sense of british colonialism. They've really done some pro-native revisionism lately in history classes, im only in my mid 20s, but in elementary school we spent most of the time on the explorers and that's where i picked it up.
all my ancestors were british imperial loyalists (WASPs). Our family has been here for over 150 years, even have a century farm. generally, real canadians like us still harbor love and respect for the british empire and it's authority, but we also share a nationalistic pride about our own self-made country.
literally, not being American-- both Canadian conservatives and liberals celebrate this. for normies, natural pride is mainly born out of social politics. Trudeau wasn't kidding when he said Canada was a postnational state. he didn't make it this way, it was just a very astute observation. Canadians since the 60's/70's have been groomed to view leftist social politics as virtue.

yeah, MOST of canada is still WASP, it's just the urban areas in ontario which have turned non-white. and southern ontario was basically the US anyways.

At this point I have no pride in Canada. I do however believe that western separation would be incredibly good for it would give my homeland the freedom we deserve and also cut off the equalization gib payments, potentially killing the Canadian welfare state as a result. For the record my family has been in Canada for 240 years.
As for British culture, tea is swell.

I'd have to say the latter. Things like the United Empire Loyalists have gotten stale in modern Canadian eyes and no one really thinks about this anymore. Our last PM, Harper, tried. He was a keen student of Canadian history and as it relates to its old ties with Britain. He patronized a lot of historical initiatives to promote this while he was PM but it's something that didn't take on a national conscious level.

To the kraut asking how we feel about the Brits. I can only speak for those who I know, but we tend to view the British, Aussies (nz too by default) as our close cousins. I feel like there's a code between our countries, and Americans as well as the French I suppose.

I don't think there are definitive ones that could be drawn that would make anyone 100% happy in a realistic scenario. The country is so big that there are pockets of people, natural resources and infrastructure that you want to keep spread across it that ideal lines will start looking like a jigsaw puzzle. I'd rather keep the country whole for better or worse and play for it all even if it doesn't seem possible right now.

Everything within 30 minutes is nice to look at, has farms and markets I can buy directly from, has good service (except Canadian Tire) and I'm comfy just strolling around.
