Just gave pic related a serious watch for the first time. I saw these when they came out but didnt really care much about the story, mostly just wanted to see the epic battles
But holy shit man, the feels. Especially Frodo and Sam's story. I have not been moved by fiction like this in a LONG time. Everything about this story is just a celebration of all the beauty and good in this world. Why does no new entertainment stir these deep feelings of happiness and sadness?
I remember reading that George RR Martin wrote a song of ice and fire in reaction to the Lord of the Rings being too black and white, saying "Aragorn never had a tax policy". But after seeing the lotr movies with a fresh set of eyes, I cant help but think Martin is a retarded faggot who missed the point entirely. If lotr is unrealistically glossy then GoT is unrealistically dark and needlessly bleak and depressing just for the sake of it. It's a collection of archetypes playing out an idealized role for themselves and reflecting our cultural values back to us. Complaining that it isn't a high political drama just doesnt make sense because that's not what it was going for in the slightest.
It didnt hit me until now just how distinctly shitty a nihilistic secular point of view is compared to a Christian one. Sorry if this is off topic or rambling but man no wonder people are so depressed nowadays, everyone is too embarrassed or edgy to appreciate a glorification of the good of humanity now and again and instead just wants to wallow in misery and self loathing.
Well the orcs and urukhai are black, even used black actors for them sooo.
John Morales
Yeah, Martin-esque thinking got Beowulf too, in the recent animated film, with the whole edgy beowulf gets corrupted and fathers the dragon with Grendel's mother thing. Tolkien was writing with a more traditional focus. There might be a section on Aragorn having to put down a tax rebellion or something, but that'd be it. He has bigger issues for his characters.
Yes, indeed. LOTR >> GoT But go read the books. They are way better than the movies.
Josiah Nguyen
you should cut out the onions from your diet its turning you into a faggot
Kevin Ward
Yeah that movie made me mad, especially since I was seeing it with a friend who's not very well read and thus didnt catch how they (((changed))) the story into white guilt demoralizing bullshit. It sucks that there's probably a lot of people whose only experience with Beowulf is that movie now.
Jaxon Price
good remember it... cherish it...because pic guy will destroy it for future generations
I watched the movies when they came out when I was 8 or 9. I have no doubt in my mind that these movies shaped me into who I am today. I love nature and forests and having adventures. I try my best to uphold all good things in this world, etc. Basically all the virtues and the message of the film had a profound influence on me growing up, and still does. To this day it is still my all time favourite movie. I watch it once every year now around christmas time and it never fails to stir pure emotion from me. It takes me on a journey every time. I'm soooooooo thankful that we have these movies and that it was produced during the late 90s early 00s.
I think the books are comfier than the movies, but the movies are way more emotional.
Cooper Cook
GoT books are as boring as Harry Potter books are for me now. I got halfway through GoT and haven't touched it since. I was hoping it'd get better but it never did. Meanwhile LotR is written intelligently and artfully and I could still read it when I was 8 and I'm fairly sure I and my vocabulary are better because of it.

THE HOBBITS THE HOBBITS THE HOBBITS THE HOBBITS

Nah. The phrases at the end of The SIlmarillion and The Return of the King gets me every time. But the OST's of the movies are absolutely majestic.
That and Troy (lmao). So many little details. I think that with material like Tolkien we should acknowledge that the gloss is there for a reason, like you said, reflecting values and trying to get us to look beyond where we are, up to our ideals. That way we have some sort of guideline for life that we need to elaborate on through philosophical study, which circles back to great stories.
Got seemed really fresh and interesting when it first came out. Now I cant help but notice that the only well adjusted person in a healthy romantic relationship in the entire world got killed off relatively early on and everyone whose left are just varying degrees of degenerate sociopath. How are you supposed to relate to any of these people?
Without being a faggot 100% this. I loved the movies, but the books are outa this world amazing.
That scene where the grog smashes down the city gates and the wraith walks in. Gandalf and the wraith have a magic showndown. Best moment of the books.
I think that’s all I have. Amazing how LOTR applies to today’s situation
John Cook
I wish we could have seen more elven art and architecture in lotr. The background of that scene is inspiring. Something about the cymbal player statue.
>George RR Martin wrote a song of ice and fire in reaction to the Lord of the Rings being too black and white Oh yeah, gotta love his nuanced writing >"FUCK SHIT FUCK CUNT FUCK SHIT FUCK FUCK SHIT" every other line >DUDE ALL THE CHARACTERS DIE GET IT?!?!??!! XD >DUDE SEX! GET IT????
Martin creates easily-digestible commercial filth for the unwashed masses. He doesn't deserve to be compared to Tolkein.
Adrian Cox
oldfags please leave
Adam Rodriguez
George RR Martin is a one trick pony who feeds off of sadism in Game of Thrones. Tolkien was someone who wrote literature to tell a timeless tale and encourage the betterment of humanity.
Isaiah Butler
Amazing movies, even when I watched it for the 5th times it still moved me to tears at some parts.
To answer your question, modern hollywood just makes quick cash grabs with lots of special effects to appeal to the lowest common denominator. No reason to put effort into it and it also goes against their agenda of destroying european virtues.
Kayden Morales
Orcposting is one of my favorite things to come out of here. Along with IOTBW and SHITTED memes.
Ethan Harris
Agreed.
Jackson Martin
Dwarves are too dumb to be jews.
Dominic Mitchell
Exactly. Its entertaining to see a playthrough of Crusader Kings 2 brought to life with an HBO sized budget but what is there to take away from the GoT universe besides Rick and Morty tier smug nihilism? Liberals are even modeling their mob behavior on the evil not-Roman Catholic church that Martin intended to be irredeemably evil with all their "SHAME! SHAME! SHAME!" shit.
The right needs to reclaim art and make it beautiful again. This fucking garbage needs to burn.

THIS was my redpill moment. It was the moment I realized until then that I had led a miserable and pitiful life as a secular edgelord with no appreciation for the things around me. I'm not saying I found faith in Christ all of a sudden, but I am saying that this was the moment I switched on. I now enjoy the wonderful optimistic works of Western culture and despise the nihilistic edgy outputs of modern media.
"Great engines crawled across the field; and in the midst was a huge ram, great as a forest-tree a hundred feet in length, swinging on mighty chains. Long had it been forging in the dark smithies of Mordor, and its hideous head, founded of black steel, was shaped in the likeness of a ravening wolf; on it spells of ruin lay. Grond they named it, in memory of the Hammer of the Underworld of old. Great beasts drew it, orcs surrounded it, and behind walked mountain-trolls to wield it."
Nathaniel Thomas
At least in the books there are the Haradrim, black people from the south, allied with Sauron.
Tolkien was a huge Christian. I remember taking a philosophy class and the professor brought up LotR as his favorite book series and saying "God is good".
Juan Jones
Yeah, this is a good point I'd like to examine more. Some of the most popular television shows right now are just dark edgy nihilist crap with no redemption. It's the only thing that people consume, and then they wonder why they develop depression and/or anxiety. I think it was just the other day that I hit the realization that normie memes are increasingly ending with the punchline "I'm depressed" or "I have crippling anxiety" or something along the lines of "things aren't going well for me, that's the punchline"
To put it in layman's terms: "Garbage in, garbage out."
Logan Moore
The Hobbit book was so fucking good Was disappointed to see the movie Liked it more than the lotr trilogy desu
Brayden Rodriguez
NO U FEGGIT
Nolan Gutierrez
Or even if they dont realize the punchline is "I'm depressed" its self apparent to anyone watching. I'm thinking specifically of shit like Cool Wine Aunts (read: Sad Old Alcoholics)
Jordan Nguyen
The movies are perfect, free of sexual degeneracy and minority tokenism.
They were developed at the perfect time, the early 2000s when the technology was god enough to capture the size and scale of the books and before cultural Marxism hit critical mass in the West.
The iconic Moria dungeon crawl is my favorite part of the films, just so well done.
Morgan Freeman would play a good Gandalf, though. I mean, if he wasn't black.
Dylan Morris
It's a bit of a chicken or the egg situation as I see it. Is the dark nihilism in entertainment a reflection of a sick society or is the society sick because it's being pushed on the people?
Thomas Campbell
don't forget Sauron's troops from Khand, who were Dravidian (there's even a province called Khand, in eastern India), and the Wainriders/Balchoth are a clear reference to mongol horsemen.
Ayden Phillips
These movies are incredible, clean and beautiful. Never again will anyone make movies like these ever again.
The movie is sort of a rallying point for white people and white ideals. You are hardly alone in the effect it has on you. The Jews probably recognize this and will not make the mistake again. Any LOTR related film or similar story will be chock full of poz from now on out. Its their way of "deplatforming" a particular way of looking at the world. A white way of looking.
Adrian Thomas
Did you make sure to watch the extended additions? Whatever you do don't watch the hobbit films. The book is readable if you want more. This. The amazon series will do exactly that.
Adrian Rivera
I share this sentiment and even got into roguelike video games because of the game Angband after reading the Silmarillion. This franchise existing in the fashion it does is an affirmation that good living is a superior life.
Liam Smith
Just watched The Return of the King last night, pure kino. The whole move is great but the siege of Minas Tirith is just something else. You can almost feel how fearful the soldiers of Gondor are, their leadership (Lord Denethor) is useless and abandons them leaving Gandalf to take charge. They have no idea if reinforcements are coming from Rohan and yet they still fight and are prepared to fight to the last man if necessary.
Colton Edwards
why did you remind us.....
Tyler Gonzalez
I sit beside the fire and think of how the world will be when winter comes without a spring that I shall ever see
Ian has asked to reprise his role. I hope he refuses if the script's SJW
Landon Reed
The Hobbit has more Rivendell in it, if you haven't seen it already. My favourite place in the lore
Andrew Turner
Martin can whine all he wants, no serious film-lovers and historic cinema masters care for Game of Thrones. Meanwhile LOTR won more Academy Awards than any other series in history, with Return of the King sacking 11 to tie with Ben-Hur for the most in any single film. And this all happened in the early 2000s too, not in the 1950s. LOTR is the peak of Western civilization. I feel like after those movies came out, it all went down the drain. My parents immigrated legally here from the ME decades ago, and THAT is the kind of West they went to see and live in. That celebration of Western beauty and achievements and Christian culture is all but gone today, replaced by nihilism and anti-Western hatred. My family didn't escape the anti-Christian East just to see more anti-Christianity in the West. Fuck it all. But never lose hope bros: > youtube.com/watch?v=k6C8SX0mWP0
When Theoden is being told about Gondor failing to defend itself and how they should uphold their ancient agreement the sheer regret and sullen pain he feels at knowing how the world turned out so shit is palpable. Its part the actor is godly, part the actual character and scenario are harrowingly real and terrifying.
"what can man against such reckless hate?" No line in cinema is more poignant or more profoundly expressed. Just the audio of it speaks volumes.
Aaron Rivera
Lord of the Rings is Catholic so many of the feels you felt are the feels from Christianity.
Dylan Powell
>Whatever you do don't watch the hobbit films. (((They))) absolutely ruined that story.
modern humanoids can only understand and perceive things quantitatively, any question of quality is completely lost on them
Adrian Nelson
> "what can men do against such reckless hate" When I first saw the movies as a teenager, that line just seemed average and didn't register with me. But today, that line burns..what the fuck CAN we do against such reckless hate? They will always hate us. There is no peaceful co-existance with enemies of your existence.
Daniel Stewart
Tolkien got the inspiration for lord of the rings from the Indian Mahabharata story. You can find alot of similarities.
The Masses have always been the enemy of Man. But soon, it will hit a critical mass. They are soulless automatons, useful idiots controlled by a more wicked purpose. Take faith, we know how the story ends.
Michael Ortiz
Kings and their folk, their wives and tender maids Were all consumed. Now silent are those courts Ruined the towers, whose old shape slowly fades And no feet pass beneath their broken ports
Take a ride on, ride on On your rotting horse On that deadly ground Take a ride, ride on On your rotting horse With a pounding sound
the ramayana is also so good, try to find the anime adaptation it's pure kino
Colton Butler
Tolkien was a dedicated Catholic yes, and even though Peter Jackson is not, he still respected the author's wishes and the theme of the story instead of warping to some nu-age spirituality garbage. The battle between Gandalf and Sauron is one between Christ and Satan. > Like Christ, Gandalf sacrifices himself to save humanity (the quest of the one ring, and his friends) and as he falls to the darkness of Hell, he slaughters evil itself. He spends some days in a place lower than the earth (Hell) like Christ did, and then his spirit is ressurected and he returns more powerful than ever. > After his return, Gandalf plays a dangerous game of chess with Sauron. He enlists the alliance of Men and Elves against the demons of Mordor. Sauron and Gandalf never meet in actual battle, but their words and power inspire those to fight for them. One scene where the Catholicism is ripe is when Gandalf rides out into the Fields of Pelennor and smites the wraiths with a blast of holiness and light.
Except they would make Arwen and Galadriel white Scandinavian women.
Tyler Carter
Kalevala, Norse Eddas, Beowulf, and Catholicism are the inspiration behind LOTR. Any resemblance to Indian myths is incidental (and due to the fact that all of the above are Indo-European)
David Mitchell
Soulless automatons that were born out of fire and ash, just as the uruk-hai were. > An army created for only one purpose: to destroy the world of Men.
I imagined Khand being more persian/turkish (It is between the far east and the not arabs), although the name ''variag" might hint some connection with the rus. Balchoth seem more like pajeets to me, their name sounds like Balochs (People rom baluchistan)
Ethan Jackson
i think LOTR (books and movies) are "overrated" insofar as they are the first book that many people read, and so they get puffed up as the "best of all time" in categories where they don't belong. I think, however, that they are also very misunderstood and the true depth and religious nature of the stories is known only to a few hardcore fans. Understood properly, they are truly great, maybe one of the best works of fiction/mythology in the last few hundred years, but that's only because they should be compared to things like Beowulf and Paradise Lost rather than to "fantasy fiction" like GRRM or Wheel of Time or what have you
Leo Sanchez
go suck saurons cock you swarthy haradrim subhuman
Aiden Williams
Gandalf is not the only place you see Christ though, you see him in Aragorn and Frodo also.
Robert Baker
'Indian' myths are Indo-European too so of course it will have resemblance to them. The literally spring from the same source as the Eddas and Beowulf.
Jordan Cook
i haven't read books so i cant judge. obviously it was very influential. however the movies are just boring cliche
Adrian Mitchell
Frodo especially. His role of sacrifice is very Christian as well. He never really fights anyone, yet the act of him walking to Mordor and suffering with his own cross, the ring, is more important than the swinging of the sword.
David Richardson
in LOTR Aragorn makes love with several elfs (Eowyn and the other one)
Jayden Edwards
the true depth and religious nature of the stories
this is the only way i can ever see lord of the rings
Jason Rivera
They are not the first book many people read, simply put their stories of such an epic level and the introduction of all the fantasy creatures and worlds was something unheard of at that level before and in a world without the technology we have today, gaming etc, it really transported you to another world.
