Museums often display artifacts knowing they are fakes; and the fakes often look nothing like the original. The fake antiquities markets really exploded in the 19th century at the same time Europe was developing their so called, sciences. In order to re-write his-story, they would create new sciences which would validate their new paradigm. The new sciences included; Anthropology, which would deny the existence of the ancient races of man, where giants and pygmies would become myth and new scientists such as Darwin would publish his 'Origin of the Species'. All of these new sciences were designed to present the European as a superior race and to conceal his origins. It is no surprise that Eugenics also became a science at this time, long before the era of Hitler. Another noted new science was, Egyptology, the only time a specific people in his-story has been given it's own science. When you look at early Egyptology in the 1800's, most people would agree that the so called, scientists were so racists, they were unable to use scientific judgement during their studies and very little has changed since then. The archaeologist who claimed to have found the bust was actually going to reproduce a new sculptor of the Queen wearing a necklace he knew she had owned. He was also experimenting with colour tests with ancient pigments found at the digs. After completing the bust in 1912, the copy was admired so much by a German Prince; the Archaeologist couldn't sum up the courage to tell the Prince it was a fake.
