Any secession will start with a retarded SCOTUS decision, I promise you. It's what started it last time, and many of this countries worst times come from a terrible SCOTUS decision. At some point they'll rule something that basically takes away a states entire governing power from it and give it to the federal government, or turns a state into a vassal state, and that'll be it. Actual FIGHTING is not viable. The US doesn't keep a billion soldiers at home, and the US is massive in actual land size. An actual war would require the federal government to call back most of their military forces around the world, pretty much abandoning all but the most essential bases. As Russia and China will not be fighting a massive fuck fest, they will easily take the US' position over, even taking over several bases as the US will be powerless to stop it (Shit, Russia could bomb bases and the US would just have to allow it.)

The ONLY real way to handle such a thing is to negotiate new terms for the states that are trying to leave. It's not the 19th century anymore, actual real civil war will not work here and will 100% destroy the country to a point there is no coming back from. The US was not involved in hundreds of international boondoggles in the 1800's
