>Natural gas prices surged to a more than four-year high in panicky and volatile trading Wednesday, after the latest cold weather forecasts raised fears that the U.S. is heading for a potentially colder-than-expected winter with too little gas supply.

>"Overnight, there was another round of cold trends, and that kind of lit the fuse and everything exploded," said Jacob Meisel, chief weather analyst at Bespoke Weather Services. "Some of the later overnight weather models trended much colder...the six to 10 and 11 to 15 day [forecasts] both saw rather significant cold trends. It wasn't like we were looking at periods of very major sustained warming. We've just been continually trending colder and colder."

>Just a few weeks ago, the market was expecting warmer weather for November and natural gas was trading at less than $3 in September. "This cold is widespread and goes deep into the heart of Texas and across the Midwest and Northeast," said John Kilduff, partner with Again Capital. "The extent and breadth of it caught the market off guard

>Government data last week showed the amount of natural gas in U.S. storage facilities rose by 65 billion cubic feet to 3.208 trillion cubic feet, 15 percent below the year-ago level and 16 percent below the five-year average. That was also the lowest amount of gas in storage during a first week of November, since 2003

>>Analysts said gas in storage fell as hot weather lingered into October, resulting in higher air conditioning use. Unlike other years, there was no break between air conditioning and heating use.

>Some analysts say U.S. exports are adding to the storage shortfall. The U.S.exports gas in the form of liquified natural gas on ships, as well as via pipeline, to Mexico.

Can poles change so significantly, that Russia becomes warm and Africa freezes?

>winter is coming. are you prepared for the power to go out?

I bought multiple electric fan heaters. I'm ready!

>no one cares about ukraine at all anymore
Jow Forums is truly too far gone, 90% of the user base probably don't even remember the clankening, or tanks in 30 minutes

yah it's depressing...it's always been more noise than signal but /nupol/ is especially noisy

It's probably too far gone to recover at this stage, all people care about is domestic issues from their own country, and not important geopolitical issues like this.

What tools would one need to create sustainable warmth in an apartment in a city without dieing from carbon monoxide

a propane space heater or something, unless your apartment has a fireplace kek

more clothes

it's all right, it's a free for all. people can post in degeneracy threads and ecelebs, etc., and others of us can post geopolitics

for starters, bundle up. layers of warm clothing (wool), layers of socks, warm hat, etc. I bought wool blankets too

additionally, consider the risks of living in a city, especially when infrastructure fails. stores may not have food, people will be desperate, in chemical withdrawal, freezing? starving? if you have heat and food and your neighbors don't, you will almost certainly be raided

best to get out of the city

I want to leave so bad but the furthest I can go is the suburbs

suburbs is an improvement but may still fail

you CAN go further, but it may involve some difficulty. housing prices/rent in the countryside are generally lower than suburbs and cities. you can find another job...work online? maybe group together with friends or relatives. that will be helpful defending your property too, if it comes to it

if the power fails long enough you won't be worried about paying rent. you just need a fireplace, a food/water supply, and other basic essentials (warm clothing, etc.)

where there's a will there's a way.

Nah, got the Gulf Stream ennit. Been dawn t beach tday.

I don't get my license back for half a year. I can't move without retaining my job but I have to stay withing biking distance of my work. I just hope to God I make it through the winter. I'm scrambling to get to the burbs before the cold hits. I have a bad feeling that food won't be getting restocked and other people are gonna chimp out hard.

What exactly did they get for declaring independence? Oh wait they were already independent with elections right around the corner init?

You’ll be fine. Just order pizza.

It was -5 this time two years ago. Today it was 13 degrees. I’m fine with winter being cold anyway, plus I’m in the south west which never gets that bad. I have a really big bag of pasta if the worst comes to the worst.

I wanna hate you guys but I know your country hates you enough for all of us. Hopefully you can figure out your refugee issues.

why can't you get a new job? start a business? sell stuff online that you make. you'd be surprised the value of your labor when you don't have a boss/corporation extracting the lion's share of it.

right. terrorism is coming too. cities are no place to be. soon

It’s fine, they are in the city’s. It’s only 5% muzzie anyway. We’re already getting vigilante groups forming too. google.co.uk/amp/s/www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2018/11/14/vigilante-neighbourhood-watch-group-forms-birmingham-failed/amp/ People are fed up of the cunts. I doubt they will have the 60 odd or whatever years they need to out breed us into full power. Cheers tho yank. Really though, it’s just a bit of snow, you’ll survive.

Nah, I remember it being bitter cold from like October to February. Maybe not -5 but it was bloody cold for months.

it certainly wasn't that cold for that long where i am back then.

Reminder: Don't use camping stoves indoors unless you want to die.

Wear layers. If you are overheating, you are sweating. If you're sweating, you're destroying the insulating ability of your clothing and asking for ice to form on your skin.

BUY SOME LONG JOHNS. Nobody is going to fucking see them anyway, so you can shove the part about them being against your delicate sensibilities up your ass and buy a pair. Pride is worth a hell of a lot less than not getting frostbite on your balls.

Wear a fucking hat. I don't care if it has a rim or not. I care that it covers your head.

That's good news. I can tolerate the cold it's tolerateing those who can't that worries me.

COTTON IS USELESS during winter. Don't wear it. It gets wet and turns to ice on your flesh. No cotton shirts. No cotton pants. No cotton socks. No cotton underwear.

NO COTTON.

Don't hold in your piss when it's cold. Your body will spend a lot more energy heating you up if your bladder is full. Replenish frequently with warm liquids. You'll get really good at signing your name by the end.

yfw day of the leaf instead of rake.

youtube.com/watch?v=lOPQ-AKbhhY

Do you need to be using your fingers? If the answer to this at any given moment is "No", then you had better be wearing mittens, then. For extreme cold, you want mittens that go up to right around your elbow. You put the mittens on after the last non-jacket layer and then put the jacket layer on top of the mittens. This prevents you from easily losing body heat from there.

BOOTS is another place people really fuck up when it comes to cold weather. They walk around with steel toed boots and lose toes. They wear COTTON SOCKS and then lose their feet.
Here's what you want to do if you like being able to count to 20: Synthetic fiber socks on your feet with at least one layer of thick wool socks on top. You want this going at least halfway up calf, btw. Ankle high boots are a great way to lose a foot. The boot should be one barleycorn larger than your normal shoe size, maybe even two if you're going to be wearing multiple layers of thick wool socks. Boots with detachable liners are great, because you can clean the inside easily and dry/warm it up at camp.
Again, no steel toe and make sure you lace it all the way to the top, but not too tight. Constricted feet are cold feet.

>Reminder: Don't use camping stoves indoors unless you want to die.
