Literally earlier today I finally had to take the plunge and cut off my parents from text and social media.
I’ve been a Republican my entire life (regrettably), but this GOP doesn’t even remotely resemble anything the GOP has ever said they stood for (whether they ever did in hindsight is another story, but they are clearly something else entirely under Trump.)
My dad rants about how liberals have a mental illness, and this morning texted me the line “If you aren’t a liberal by the time you’re 20, you don’t have a heart. If you are still a liberal by the time you’re 40, you don’t have a brain. You’re 39, there’s still time.” without a hint of humor or sarcasm, I assure you.
He went on to tell me that “Morning Joke” and Maddow are pushing conspiracies and there’s a reason Fox News is the most trusted news source by far, his words.
That is it for me.
I can handle people who disagree with me politically, but when my own parents seem to think my political beliefs constitute a mental illness, just because I want better for our country than a D list celebrity who can’t even spell “counsel” correctly in a 1am twitter rant, it’s only a matter of time before they start saying that shit about me to my kids.
I hope their relationship with Hannity is worth it
