I completely abhor their doctrines, but their temples are pretty
Which is the best Mormon temple, pol?

Was gonna post exactly what you said, so you're off the hook. The one in SLC is nice. I'm genuinely considering moving there after uni.
isn’t SLC majority non Mormon now?
Looks like shit.
That's a disney world ride or something yea?
The one in Mecca. It's not built yet. You can help.
MoMo temple. Shit looks like high fantasy shit.
Not enough pointy bits.
Could look more fascist.
7/10
go to sleep chase
Like the tasteless shit a newly rich Russian would build
>I completely abhor their doctrines
Why? I don't care that their "prophet" plagiarized children's stories to write some of it. I want to know what about it is worth hating.
It reminds me of those solid white geometric models used for lighting demonstrations in software.
that’s the beauty
When creating a fictional narrative, it should at least remain consistent. The Book of Mormon doesn’t
I don't consider that a hateworthy offense. I don't hate the Koran for inconsistency, either. I hate the Koran because of the specific things it teaches.
What awful things does the Book of Mormon teach? Serious question from someone who hasn't read it.
Its story can’t even pass as allegory, Mormons hold it to be factual and literal, which eliminates any intention of it serving as illustration to define morality and serve as what religions are, moral and societal rules/principles
The worst part is not their book, it’s their doctrine that some people at their leadership directly communicate with god to decide doctrine in the modern day
I still don't see anything hateworthy about this. Does the book advocate killing or theft or that non-Mormons are to be treated as second-class citizens in a Mormon ran theocracy?
Neither does the bible.
>HURRRRR MUH MYSTERY MUH TRADITION YOU ARE NOT TRAINED IN BIBLICAL EXEGESIS DEPART FROM MY SIGHT DURRRRRR *tips fedora* UUUUUUUHHHHGGGGUUU
All religious books should be broken down word by word, to see if they’re worthy of serving as societal guides
Their outright lying and dishonesty is enough to abhor them
Simply breathtaking
It’s nice to see it on the way home every day
the one in Washington DC is LIT
Sort of looks like modern gothic.
I've seen worse, although as far as I'm concerned churches should be made like in the late middle-ages, as it was the peak of christian architecture.
Mormonism is the whitest religion in the US now.
The interiors are pretty meh tier. Mormons can't make anything that comes close to a Gothic cathedral.
>it’s their doctrine that some people at their leadership directly communicate with god
If that's true, that's a massive fucking heresy.
Mormons are considered a cult for a reason. They aren't even trinitarians.
I agree, i remember it from my trip to DC, it has a unique look, how would you describe its architectural style?
looked like some disney shit to me
My point exactly. They have something called a “council of prophets” that conveniently actualizes Mormon doctrine so the LDS church isn’t as ostracized as America becomes less like it was
This is now a Scientology thread. Mormons and Catholics fuck off.
The Book of Mormon tells the story of white God-fearing colonists setting up a civilization in the Americas, only to be destroyed by hordes of brown heathens once they all get rich and lazy and stop believing in God. It ought to be pol's favorite religious book of all time. Mormons also teach that God had to send Jesus to the Jews, because they were the only group of people evil enough to crucify their own creator
fuck off we're full
you can crash in idaho if you want
We don’t have that many of those here in the states unfortunately
Too bad it’s doctrinal basis is laughable
????? that statement doesn't even make sense, but please enlighten me. What is "it's" doctrinal basis
vs any other so-called holy book of divine inspiration?
Jews make boat and go to new continent. Jews make civilizations and splinter into opposing groups. Jesus cameo. One group kills other group. God makes them dark. Sorry, I meant its***
At least the Bible is based on actual historical events and civilizations. The Quran doesn’t even try
You got most of it right, except the point is that several groups initially left because of the degeneracy of the Jews. They started a colony in the new world. It splintered. The non-believers intermarried with the native peoples who were already living there, causing the skin of their children to become dark. The believers took this to mean that God made their unbelieving brothers turn dark, which they a;sp took as a sign that God had abandoned them. I don't get how this is doctrinally laughable, but okay.
There’s absolutely no historical, archeological, or genetic facts to corroborate it
That's actually not true at all. Just take the many myths of the bearded white god that appeared to the ancient inhabitants of Central America for starters. As for genetics, it's very difficult if not impossible to measure the genetic line of a tiny group of people inserted into a huge population of natives about 2000 years after the fact.
it looks like its plastic
“I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to that person the plagues described in this scroll. And if anyone takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life and in the Holy City, which are described in this scroll.”
Revelations 22:18,19

Lol Idaho
You're kidding, right? When John wrote that scroll there wasn't even such a thing as the Holy Bible. In fact, he even wrote more writings himself after the Book of Revelation. It was only placed last in the New Testament because it talked about the end of the world. Clearly, the commandment was talking about John's revelation itself, not all of scripture. Come on, this is beginner level stuff.
anyway, I urge anyone interested to just read it for yourself:
lds.org
It's way better than the Quran, at least
John was the last writer of God’s inspired word, he wrote Revelations and the eponymous gospel, around the same time. There is no other canon writer after him
LIT indeed
So unless John was breaking the very commandment he was recording, the line in Revelation was clearly referring to the Book of Revelation itself, not all of recorded scripture
Sleep is for people that ain't woke
this is great evidence of why it's not fictional. He could have just made up a concise little story with no flaws to trick all the dumb rubes. Instead, he stared into a hat and dictated an insane 500 page narrative assembled by various narrators and spanning 1,000 years of history. Maybe miracles really do happen, and God really did share something with the world. Millions have read it and believe it to be true
