There is always at least one FBI agent reading Jow Forums, as well as 8pol, a team of younger agents who understands memes. Their job is to check for illegal content, specifically imminent violent threats. They do stuff like immediately refer “drumpf should be assassinated” to the secret service, or investigate further traffic from idiots suggesting they may be violent. The main reason they are here is for stuff like Pittsburgh - if someone says “some of jew are ok - don’t go to synagogue tomorrow” so they can head off the shooting.
They also post discords to bait people into joining, as well as join those discords, to get to know people and make sure they aren’t violent, and to encourage violent tendencies verbally so they can arrest them IRL before they actually do anything.
NSA make a realtime archive of Jow Forums directly from Jow Forums’s server. They can’t officially use this in court as they have to collect evidence properly (hence why Jow Forums goes down after a crime is committed it’s suspected the perp posted about it here - detectives from the FBI archiving), but NSA have access to all the IPs and post history so they can identify threats.
CIA monitors things like Syria General and things with international consequence, trying to evaluate how people are feeling in other countries and so forth.
