Modern art is ruled by leftist aesthetics, which are inherently boring because everything is subjugated to the political message, which is (at this point) a trite one done to death.
Leftist aesthetics are based in the ugly, the deformed, the unnatural. They praise these qualities as ‘beautiful’ in an effort to subvert and symbolically overthrow all things traditional. If traditional social structures must go, so must traditional aesthetics. Basically polymorphous perverse aesthetics.
Leftists do not even enjoy their art, it is virtue signalling, ‘an emperor has no clothes’ show of loyalty to abhorring the traditional.
This may have at least been a novel artistic message a century ago, but you can only see so many piss Christs, slashed canvases and painted roast beef flaps before you ‘get the idea’ and get tired of it yawn. Traditional aesthetics are based in nature, symmetry, fitness and qualities inherently beautiful to humans by virtue of naturally evolved tastes, so novelty is not important. I've actually had the same thoughts on the matter. As with any art, be it culinary, sculpture, painting, dance, etc... it takes dedication, and you MUST understand the classics. The modern era has completely disregarded them in favor of laziness and disposable ideas, and that is perhaps the bigger travesty- it cheapens and disgraces the very meaning of art.
